Yorkshire Library Mystery Visitor Initiative

During my Chartership, I identified a training and development need on my PPDP, which involved me gaining a knowledge and understanding of other Library and Information Services. To help satisfy this need I took part in the Yorkshire Library Mystery Visitor Initiative.

The initiative is a partnership between Leeds Library Services, Kirklees Library Services, Bradford Library Services, Leeds University Libraries and Leeds Metropolitan University libraries. The aim of the initiative is to provide an opportunity to see the Library in operation and gain a real customer experience and snapshot of the facility, while identifying its strengths and any areas for improvement.

From the training I received I gained an understanding of how to conduct a visit as a mystery visitor. It's important to be observant, impartial, to have the ability to blend in and be organised. It's a very good opportunity to gain observations of another Library and also help build a good working partnership with other organisations; a partnership which will also benefit the organisation and hopefully its users as well.
